Judge rules on Miguel Cabrera child support case

Major league baseball fans in California and beyond may be following a family law case involving first baseman Miguel Cabrera. Cabrera’s complex personal problems have been making headlines for some time now. The judge overseeing his case recently handed down a ruling regarding child support and other financial issues.

Cabrera is married, although his wife filed for divorce after learning of an extramarital affair he had with a woman who became mother to two of his children. His wife ultimately changed her mind and decided to keep their marriage intact. In the meantime, his ex-mistress filed a paternity lawsuit, requesting $100,000 in monthly child support payments, stating that her children have every right to live a similar lifestyle to that which Cabrera provides for his children that live with him.

Cabrera is one of the highest paid players in professional baseball. His attorney accused the ex-mistress of extortion, a claim which her attorney adamantly denied on her behalf in court. He said that his client was simply a mother who was trying to protect her children’s interests and that their father had set them up to become accustomed to a certain lifestyle, then left them high and dry when he ended his affair with their mother.

As it turns out, a Florida judge ruled that Cabrera must pay $20,000 per month in child support. He must also give his ex-mistress money to cover the cost of closing on the million-dollar home he bought for her. Finally, the judge ordered Cabrera to provide annual passes to Disney for his kids, as well as other perks that he regularly provides for his other children. Any California parent facing similar legal problems may act alongside experienced family law representation to protect his or her rights and children’s best interests.
