California men may want to be aware of this child support case

Many men in California are divorced. Of those, a great number pay child support. However, readers may be hard-pressed to find many men paying court-ordered support for children who are not biologically theirs. However, this is exactly what has happened to a man in another state.

This particular man is raising his own three children plus two of his nephews. His current problem involves a past girlfriend who had a child in 2003. The woman apparently told court officials that the man was undoubtedly the father of her baby.

About a year ago, deputies served the man court papers saying he owed tens of thousands of dollars in back child support for the child. The man says the moment he was served papers is the first instance he had heard of the situation. Since then, he has been battling to protect his rights.

The man took a DNA test that proved he is not the biological father of the child. Shockingly, the state of Texas, where he resides, says he must still pay $65,000 in child support that accrued before he took the DNA test. The man said he is dumbfounded that he is having to defend himself when he is not related to the child in any way.

The father of three has retained an attorney to help him try to convince the court to reopen the case. In the meantime, the state (of Texas) is apparently pursuing recovery of the $65,000. Anyone in California who thinks there is even the remotest chance possible they are being assessed for child support they don’t owe may seek immediate assistance by requesting consultation with an experienced family law attorney.
